To create the world’s first earbud for women and gender-diverse people, we took advanced audio performance, cutting edge design, and leading wireless technology… and cut them in half.
Because for a woman, girl, Two Spirit, trans, or nonbinary person to feel safe, they’re expected to always keep one ear to the ground.
NO ONE SHOULD NEED THE AWAREPOD
Nearly 30% of women and girls in Canada aged 15 or older have experienced sexual assault. Sexual assault rates are higher for women with disabilities, Indigenous women, 2SLGBTQIA+ community members, and others who face multiple barriers.
No wonder daily activities like walking, exercising, taking transit, and going out can feel unsafe. This is why so many women and gender-diverse people alter their behaviour to increase safety. If you’ve ever used just one earbud, gripped your keys between fingers, or pretended to talk on the phone, you know exactly what we’re talking about.
Most men are unaware of the lengths women, girls, and gender-diverse people go to feel safer from sexual assault and harassment.
The Canadian Women’s Foundation created AwarePod, a single earbud to symbolize the extra precautions we take each and every day.
AwarePod was not created to keep anyone safe. Only real prevention and meaningful change can do that. AwarePod was designed to ignite conversation and point to solutions to build safety and end gender-based violence.
